Bike Fit Services

Phil's partnership with Riverside Cycle offers the most comprehensive bike fit service in New England.

Bike fitting using any system or methodology is very dependent on the training, experience, knowledge and attention to detail of the fit technician. Phil is one of the few Certified Master BG FIT Technicians in the country, with a wealth of knowledge and understanding of what goes into not only a proper bike fit but, creating the best possible experience on the bike. Phil has been fitting full-time for over 12 years.

The BG/Retul Fit method was developed through  a collaboration with Dr. Andy Pruitt of the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine and Specialized Bicycles. Phil has been extensively trained in fitting directly from Andy Pruitt, Boulder Center for Sports Medicine staff along with the great SBCU professors at Specialized. This method is a dynamic bicycle fit system consisting of trained fit technicians, cutting edge tools, and a physiological assessment process. The goal is to make the bike fit the rider, not the rider fit the bike. As time has progressed so have technological aids, the latest motion capture system by the Retul brand is the gold standard. Needless to say Phil and Riverside use Retul for the utmost accuracy with the best feedback during your fit.

Testimonials:

Philip did an amazing job on my bike fit. Gone are the neck/shoulder issues. Well worth the investment for a comfortable ride.

-Paula B.

My original fitting with Phil 4 years ago made my bike feel brand new. Neck pain and knee mis-alignment disappeared, and I got several additional years of enjoyment from the bike. This past year I bought a new bike that didn't quite fit correctly. After booking a session with Phil, the new bike now fits perfectly. Subtle adjustments to cleat angle and seat alignment made a huge difference.

The PW Fit process

Pre-fit interview: Clients will have a pre-fit interview; this is designed to help us understand your cycling history, goals, any existing problems, as well as injury history.

Pre-fit assessment: Clients will then be led through 23 physical therapy based assessments designed to evaluate your body’s structure, flexibility, strength while addressing any discrepancies. This will help us determine unique physical characteristics and possible solutions to past, current or future issues on the bike.

Dynamic positioning fit: The dynamic fit process allows us to analyze the position of a moving rider. This focuses on the correct positioning from both sides of the rider, while ensuring that the rider is in the most bio-mechanically sound position. The goal is to also find a neutral position that’s both powerful and comfortable, which is done through adjustments to saddle height, handlebar height, stem length and cleat position. During this process, the rider will also be able to see changes taking place through the help of my video and motion tracking software.

Dynamic alignment: The focus from the frontal plane is to optimize hip, knee and foot alignment for greater performance and balanced power delivery. Included is the advanced analysis of the pedal and shoe interface. We will assess and make adjustments which is an essential ingredient in allowing the rider to pedal with proper alignment, knee tracking, minimal pain and the least chance of injury. Our motion tracking system allows us to track lateral knee movement and make corrections to an acceptable range.

Technological Aid: The Retul motion capture system is used as an aid for a truly dynamic fit. With Retul we can track mechanics of the rider in real time along with measuring the bike with absolute accuracy.

Follow Up: Included in the cost is a follow up appointment that usually occurs after 8 - 10 rides from the initial fit. At this appointment we can discuss any lingering issues and address them if possible. Fit Report: Comprehensive fit reports will be generated by the Retul system and available in .pdf format.
